Decontamination Pod - The next big thing?

A revolutionary product - in more ways than one - the Decontamination Pod is a self-contained solution to HTM01-05 for practices where space is at a premium

Stealing the show at the recent BDTA Showcase exhibition in Birmingham, the Decontamination Pod is a new concept, offering a complete HTM01-05 compliant decontamination solution. The best part is that the product takes up just one square metre, perfect for practices where space is at a premium.

Designed with HTM01-05 at the forefront, the Decontamination Pod is 1.2 metres in diameter and accommodates most, if not all, of the decontamination equipment on the market.

The unit has a 'dirty' side with two stainless steel sinks, put down area, inspection area, space for a washer disinfector, magnifying glass, filtered clean air supply, reverse osmosis and ultraviolet antibacteria pass through hatch.


Revolution

Close the moulded solid surface doors and at the press of a button the Pod rotates 180 degrees to present the 'clean' side. On the clean side the Pod has an area for an autoclave (which lowers to a safe working height while the unit is rotating), Corian hand wash sink, Corian worktop, storage space and shelf. The sink and worktop are seamless for easy cleaning.

Standard equipment with the Pod includes a reverse osmosis machine, ultraviolet light, extraction fan (this does not replace the outward extraction fan) inspection light, connections to all equipment such as the DAC and fitting. Both sides also feature integrated lighting.

Constructed using antibacterial solid surface materials (Corian/ WilsonArt) the Decontamination Pod is made by Custom Design in Liverpool and holds an estimated cost of approximately £15,000 plus VAT. Described by supplier Hague Dental as perfect for single surgery practices, the Decontamination Pod is on show at the firm's London showroom in Tooting.

A prototype was first exhibited at the BDA show in Manchester back in May 2011, but the Pod was officially launched at Showcase in October 2011.
