Neil Harris’ ‘I couldn’t do without…’
Gloucestershire-based aesthetic dentist Neil Harris picks out the key pieces of equipment in his practice
1. Kavo Gentlesilence 8000B
Everybody has their own choice for handpieces, but the 8000B is my workhorse. Ceramic bearings, high torque and low noise output means it is good for dentists and patients alike.

2. A-Dec Tooth Dryer
Ensuring a dry field every time for predictable bonding. This has allowed my adhesive dentistry to progress since I started using it in 1997.

3. Intraoral camera
Patient communication is paramount in dentistry today and a good quality intraoral camera is a prerequisite to good communication. I have an A-dec camera on my A-dec 500 chair and it not only helps me discuss treatment options with patients but also helps me critically analyse any work I have completed.

4. Triodent V-Rings
I tried all of the sectional matrix systems to ensure that contact points for direct composites were perfect. All of them struggled in some situations. Then Triodent developed the V-Ring and all my problems were solved – perfect contact points every time!

5. Cosmedent Anterior Stickless Instruments
For perfect placement of composite increments, I use this range of instruments. Getting cusp angles correct becomes easy, meaning less finishing is needed after the final cure.

6. Valo Curing Light
Perfect for every situation, whether I want to tack cure composites, partially cure luting resins or cure a fissure sealant in three seconds; this light does it all.
